Dry Bones on the March: The Great Winfield Anti-Saloon Uprising of February 1901 by Jerry L. Wallace.  74 pp.  $9.00 each + postage and handling of $3.00 = $12.00.

This volume recounts the anti-saloon uprising that took place in Winfield in February 1901 simultaneous with Carry Nation's "hatchation" crusade in Kansas.  After the "smashing" of a local saloon by students from Southwestern College, the situation in Winfield quickly deteriorated until the anti- and pro-saloon forces were on the verge of civil war--each side being armed and prepared for battle.  Only a spark was needed to set off an explosion of violence. City leaders worked frantically to claim the situation.  The drama of it all captured national attention, making even the pages of the New York Times and other major urban papers.  This volume tells the complete story of this little known event, which most Winfielders, once it was over, wanted to forget.  Included are illustrations, interesting addenda, and enlightening endnotes.  (Note:  This is the full, uncut version with addenda and endnotes, rather than the shorter version included in the CWH booklet.)

The Winfield Courier Supplemental Edition, March 14, 1901 (reprint).  129 pp.  $4.00 each + postage and handling of $3.00 = $7.00.

Winfielder's proud of their community's growth and success published this volume at the dawn of the 20th Century.  Included are an account of the founding of the city, numerous biographical sketches of local men and women, and information on city's vibrant commercial actives.  Its pages are full of pictures and illustrations of community leaders, private homes, and business enterprises.  This pictorial volume is essential for those wishing to understand life in the city in its early days.  Along with local historians, genealogists will find this book useful.

History of Cowley County Kansas: Vol. I, The Beginning, by Richard Kay and Mary Ann Wortman.  Indexed.  209 pp.  $25.00 each + postage and handling of $4.00 = $29.00.

This volume offers fascinating accounts of the first white settlers in Cowley County from articles, dating from the 1870's and 1880's, compiled from area newspapers.  It also includes a valuable listing of the first settlements in the county with historical notes.  This volume brings home to the reader what life was like for the pioneers in those exciting, early days of Cowley County.  With its many references to individuals and families, it is of particular value to genealogists.  Its index facilitates reference.
